I joined RM on the graduate scheme as an HR Officer for TTS. Straight away I was encouraged to learn more about the business, the different HR functions, to obtain my CIPD qualification and to gain a wider Group understanding through the Graduate scheme activities. After a year I was given an opportunity to become the HR Business Partner at TTS.
This was an amazing year for me. I looked after the HR functions for TTS with lots of recruitment, employee engagement programmes, internal communications, managing processes like appraisals and our competency reviews. We have a really supportive and friendly atmosphere here, and it’s led from the top. Personal development and challenging yourself is really intrinsic to our culture, and taking ownership for your career and defining your role is something you definitely have the opportunity to do.
It’s recognised too; I won employee of the year at TTS during this period for all my efforts and was promoted to my current role in the Group HR team. This focuses on the more operational HR work such as employee relations, HR processes, TUPE and the group-wide Company Survey. Being field based means I get to meet new people and go to new places, with freedom to manage my own diary and workload.
My HR knowledge increases every day and I’m taking on line management of the admin team in the UK as well as HR data visualisation. In Corporate Services we are constantly looking to improve what we do. We know if we deliver a good service to our employees, they are able to deliver an even better service to our customers. It’s that common focus that challenges us all to improve and develop, which makes working here great.
