I joined RM in June 2017 as an apprentice within the procurement team. A key part of the role was building relationships with our suppliers including smaller SMEs and larger suppliers such as Dell and HP. I was responsible for providing them with the reports they need and looking at the orders we were placing. I reviewed the prices we are getting and benchmarked them to ensure that RM are always getting the best possible deal.
Alongside working within the procurement team, I also completed a Level 3 Business Administration apprenticeship. For this, I met regularly with my tutor from QA and attended training at their local training centre. I used to worry about what I would do with my career but after completing my apprenticeship, I now feel confident about my future.
I have now moved to the Connectivity team as a Junior Product Manger. This role involves the commercials of the products. I work closely with the commercial and technical teams and act as bridge between the other teams to enable us to develop our products. I also play a key role in the reporting for the team, analysing the commercials of the product. I like that I have real responsibility and autonomy to decide what is needed from the role.
What I have enjoyed about both roles is that I am actually making a difference within the role that I do. I enjoy meeting with suppliers and building relationships. Since joining RM, I have really grown in confidence and learnt a lot.
One of the exciting things I got to do as an Apprentice was that I got to go and visit a supplier and their distributor office where I got to do training of their products. I am also recently been involved in the RM seminars and attended BETT.
I was also invited to participate in the graduate project which forms part of the graduate scheme. For this, I am worked with the connectivity team on a project looking at improving communication and customer retention.
Since I joined RM, the support from everyone has been fantastic. My line manager has been very supportive. My advice to anyone considering an apprenticeship would be go for it. I am learning so much in my role than I think I would have ever learnt at University.
