"You can’t feel anything but proud when you work for a company at the forefront of the Education Technology sector, doing everything it can to integrate technology into schools in order to make teaching and learning as easy as it can be."
I joined RM 2 years ago straight after having completed a Graphic and Communication Design degree at the University of Leeds.
I work within the Creative Team which is based in Cheadle, near Manchester. Our relatively small team is responsible for the design of almost everything throughout the business, which means not only is our work load incredibly varied, but you really get to see how yourself and the team make an impact. It also means we get the opportunity to work alongside a huge variety of stakeholders from Marketing Managers, Heads of Departments, Directors, all the way through to our CEO.
The environment in the team is incredibly supportive, and it’s one of the best things about the role that we are so easily able to collaborate, critique and develop ideas together to continuously improve what we offer to RM. Sitting alongside so many experienced Designers has really given me a desire to learn more and push myself beyond what I think I’m capable of. A lot of that stems from having a ton of confidence placed in yourself by the team on day one, and being given great projects so you can really prove yourself. I can honestly say that I developed more in a year here than I did in the three I had at University.
For the past two years I have been fortunate enough to be a part in the designing of some of our key events, most noticeably our annual ‘Rethinking Education and Learning’ or ‘REAL’ event this year, a technology summit that brings together education professionals from across the country to share experiences and discuss the future of education. My main responsibility was creating the videos and animation that would act as interludes for our key speakers including Bear Grylls, Jeremy Vine, Dr Sakena Yacoobi and representatives from Google, Apple and Microsoft. This gave me a great opportunity to develop new concepts, experiment across multiple platforms, and really push my technical skills to achieve some great work. It also gave me the opportunity to travel to a number of schools and capture some truly hilarious footage of different students answering questions about our speakers. It was very important for us in creating the videos to have the children at the heart of it all, reminding the educational professionals why we were all there in the first place.
