Customer Support Engineer

I joined RM as an apprentice in 2014. The training and experience I gained from my course and working alongside more experienced engineers meant that in 2015, after completing my apprenticeship, I became a fully qualified Customer Support Engineer.

In my current role I am based primarily at on one school site, but I am a part of the wider team working across Essex & London. My job is very varied and really focuses on ensuring that our customers are totally satisfied with the service that we provide for them. We help the school to continue to move forward with their plans for current and future technology and provide guidance and support in its` use to ensure that teachers & students really get the most from their IT. I also help teachers and other members of staff to fix any issues they may be experiencing with their equipment so that they can teach their classes without interruption. In my job I make sure that I build good relationships between RM and the school so that they know they can ask us for help and we will always be on hand to provide the help they require.

My favourite part of the job is knowing that I am helping the school to improve and advance technologically. I find helping customers to use their software and equipment one of the most gratifying aspects of my role, and I especially enjoy the challenge of solving a difficult issue.

I am very proud of all the work that we have done with the Immersive Room in the school and I have been the main IT contact for this work. This is a fun and interesting resource that uses large screens around the room and on the floor which can be used to show video clips relating to subjects being taught. The students sit in the middle and really feel as if they are a part of everything that is going on. The Head Teacher of the school sent me a letter thanking me for my hard work in this project after I assisted in a lesson with a visiting primary school who were learning about dinosaurs. My role was to collate lots of video clips from films about dinosaurs, edit them together and use the software to create an exciting experience for the students. As I was helping with the lesson, the students asked me lots of questions about dinosaurs too so it was lucky that I knew a bit about them! This gave me a great sense of achievement and helped build a better relationship with the school, demonstrating that RM staff will go above and beyond expectations for our customers.

The on-site engineer at the school was incredibly helpful in training me and continues to support me and help me to develop. I believe together we make a real difference at the school and provide a particularly high quality of service as a team.

My line manager has always provided me with support and makes me feel like a priority even when I know he is incredibly busy. He has always gone out of his way to help me progress, showing me the various career paths that are available to me and enabling me to continue reaching my goals. He listens & shows interest when I have ideas about how to improve the service and is always available if I need to talk to him about something I need help with.

I have always had and still have amazing support from the entire Essex team and I know that if I am ever faced with an issue that I cannot find a solution to, they are always willing to lend a hand and help me resolve the issue.

I enjoy working at RM and really feel that the company cares about me and wants me to progress. They have been very supportive and offered me excellent options to further my career. Most of all, RM is a company made up of hard working people who are willing to go the extra mile in order to consistently provide the best service we can and to surpass even our own expectations which is why I am proud to be a part of such a brilliant company.
