I joined RM as a Graduate Support Engineer within the Corporate Services division 18 months ago. Our team support the other business areas with technical issues from desktop support to application support. As well as supporting Head Office, we also support our offices in London and Scotland.
What I enjoy about the role is the diversity. Every day there is a new challenge either from issues raised or from project work to tackle. Shortly after joining, I was involved in a project to roll out Multi Factor Authentication. This was great as it gave me a lot of exposure to the business very early on in my career with RM.
One of the most challenging projects I have been involved in is a current project which is IHP Phase 2. This has involved rolling out a mobile management tool which allows us to look after remote machines more effectively. We are involved in the operational side of the project, ensuring that the implementation goes as expected and understanding the inner workings of the tool before we manage it full time. I also work closely with the development team before implementation to look at what we want a project to achieve.
RM support me in my role with training. I recently attended a week long training course on Administering Windows Server 2012 which was extremely useful and allowed me to understand technologies I use frequently in greater depth. Since I joined, the other team members have also been extremely helpful and supportive in my development. I can now return this support as I have taken on responsibility for mentoring an apprentice and am helping him to develop his portfolio for his apprenticeship.
The Graduate Scheme has been great experience. The Graduate Project was great as I was in a team in another division of the company, RM Results, which gave me far more insight into what they do. As a part of the scheme, we have lunch with the CEO and it was really interesting to hear his thoughts on the business.
I chose RM as they offered a role with more variety than anyone else. I liked the idea of being able to learn a breadth of new skills. I wanted a responsibility with a role straight away and it really was as from my first day I was dealing with customer issues.
Working for RM, you are aware of the great things we do for schools. RM’s role within the education sector allows a school to move forwards technologically. We are able to have a real positive impact on the lives of children which really makes the role rewarding.
