"The Graduate Project was a fantastic experience and I am excited that RM Results are now investigating how to integrate our project outputs surrounding AI into their long term strategy."
I joined RM as a Graduate at the beginning of 2016 working within the Project Management team in RM Results. What I liked about RM was the very forward thinking culture and how well established they are.
When I first joined, I assisted with a number of projects that were ongoing. The summer period is RM Results’ busiest. Due to all the exam marking, during the busiest weeks we scan hundreds of thousands of exam papers. Our relationship with our scanning partners is, therefore, crucial to ensuring we meet our deadlines and targets. One of the first projects I was involved in was supplier governance working closing with one of our scanning partners to build relationships and check processes. I twice visited their scanning centre in Alabama to represent RM and be on site to deal with any issues.
After that, I have moved on to two new projects. One was working with our Data team in London on the National Pupil Database Performance tests. My role was to support the team with planning and organisation around governance and improving workflows. So that I can really be involved in this project I spent one day a week working in our London office, where this team are based.
At RM, I am supported in my professional development. I completed PRINCE2 (a project management methodology course) in 2016, and both ITIL foundation and ITIL intermediate courses in 2017. This professional training has given me a far broader appreciation of industry standards and increased my skillset as a results. In addition to professional training, I am also supported with the trust and backing I receive when involved in running important projects working with both suppliers and Clients.
I have been fortunate to be involved in many aspects of the business such as working alongside the Bid Project Manager assisting with bids for international clients in Asia and Australasia. This has given a great understanding of how we formalise prospective new business and a thorough understanding of the tender process.
Since then I have moved on to become a Support Manager managing the helpdesk team in Abingdon. This move has allowed me to gain a deeper understanding of the operational side of the business as well as develop my career into line management.
Graduates at RM participate in a Graduate Project Competition which involves us presenting to the Senior Leadership team. Our brief was to investigate how AI can be used in RM Results. Working as part of a team of 6 across our Abingdon and India Offices, we were able to come up with business cases for applications of AI – supported by demonstrable proof of concepts including a chatbot service. AI is certainly a hot topic within IT and our customers loved discussing potential uses of it within assessment and marking. Our team was lucky enough to win the competition, and was in no small part down to how exciting our topic was and how innovative AI may be within education. The project was a fantastic experience and I am excited that RM Results are now investigating how to integrate our project outputs surrounding AI into their long term strategy.
