"I look after our top customers and act as ‘customer champion’ for the schools on my patch."
I started at RM two years ago. RM had a great reputation for graduates and I loved the community feel when I came for interview.
I was promoted within my first year and then moved into my current role. Although it was exciting, it was a really steep learning curve for me. I knew I wanted to be a Field Key Account Manager at some point, but the opportunity presented itself sooner then I’d expected.
Now I look after our top 100 customers in the South West and act as the ‘customer champion’ for the schools on my patch. I work alongside an Internal Key Account Manager and it’s brilliant to be part of a team that works well together. We make sure our customers’ needs are prioritised and that any issues impacting the schools get resolved quickly.
I love meeting our customers face to face; they’re always excited to show you how proud they are of their schools. It’s also great to see what they’ve achieved using our products and services.
Apart from my regular role I’m part of the Graduate Scheme, which has given me some great learning and development. The graduate project was brilliant – it’s really hard to find the time to put into it when you have full-time responsibilities, but it gave me the chance to work with other graduates around the business and start building relationships. It’s a great launch pad to prove your value, especially as the final presentations are made to the CEO.
A lot is expected of you as a graduate but you do receive a lot of support, not just from your direct colleagues but from around the business. One of the key advantages I’ve discovered about working here is the fact that you’re not treated any differently just because you’re a young graduate with less experience.
