Colin Evans
Operations Director Assessment
I joined RM in 2008. It might have been 15 years ago, but I remember it so clearly. I joined as a Team Leader for one of the Software Development Teams in what is now the Technology business. My team was based in both the UK and India and developed various applications that were used within UK schools. In 2012 I moved to the Assessment business as a Software Development Manager, working on a really interesting joint venture project with one of our biggest customers.
I was later promoted to Head of Development before I decided my career needed a change of direction. In 2017, I made the switch to a more commercial role, where I looked after the relationships with our sub-contractors and key suppliers. Having done that role for 2 years, I was fortunate enough to be offered the Operations Director role where I have accountability for all Service Delivery and Project Management within the Assessment business.
RM was an easy choice for me, having always worked in technology roles for many different industries but never before in education. Technology in Education is so important and the opportunity to work for an organisation where I could genuinely make a difference to the lives of young people was impossible to turn down.
The people at RM make it such a special place to work. We are very fortunate to have some incredibly talented and passionate people here in the UK, India and in Australia. We spend a lot of our life working, and to know you have committed, dedicated colleagues all being supportive of each other really helps.
Whilst the people are great, there is so much more to RM. We have some inspirational customers all around the world, all doing some amazing things. The opportunity to work with these organisations and be involved in some truly exceptional projects is very special.
From a career perspective RM has always been an organisation that supports individuals who have the appetite to grow and progress within the organisation. Many people at RM have moved from one business within the organisation to another, or from one role to another. It’s really important to know that opportunities are there for you.
I’ve been fortunate enough to meet some amazing customers, partners, and suppliers during my time at RM, but some of my favourite moments have been on my visits to our Indian office, in Kerala. It’s a wonderful place, full of special people, and the weather’s pretty good too!
Leaving travel aside, my favourite moments are when our teams pull together to achieve fantastic results for our customers. I know in many ways that’s what we are here for, but success only comes with hard work and it’s fantastic when hard work achieves great outcomes.
