Ingrid Fox
IT Support Engineer
I joined RM since 2018 contracting initially which involved being sent to schools doing computer builds. After a while I was sent to a school in London for a week and stayed there for a year. I got to know all the second line support engineers who have been so fantastic and supportive. I realised I really enjoyed working for RM and so when a permanent opportunity came up, I applied for it.
Before I joined RM I was in civil and structure engineering as a CAD technician. I have always been in a technical role and always had a technical mind. In 2009 when the economy crashed, I was made redundant so there weren’t any jobs in my industry. I decided to retrain as a network engineer and signed up for a CCNA course. It’s been a baptism by fire but RM have been so supportive. There is so much on the portal that you can read and learn from and I have learnt a lot on the job since joining.
I currently support a secondary school in London. I love working in the school environment. I haven’t come across any schools I haven’t enjoyed the teachers so always so supportive. When I joined I had a period of handover with another engineer and I am the sole engineer on site. The second line support team are always there to help and very quick to respond should I ever need support.
Working for RM I love the camaraderie. Everyone is just really friendly and supportive. To be a part of that team means a lot.
As a woman in this industry, you get treated like anyone else. It means a lot. If you are capable and technically minded, you can absolutely do the job. For any women considering a career in technical support, I would say go for it.
