Kalinda Williams
IT Support Engineer
I joined RM three months ago after working for the company before a few years ago, on the team responsible for looking after the RM.com website and uploading all of the products. I loved working for the company so was pleased to have the opportunity to come back again. I wanted to get back into education and already knew the role and company, so it was an easy move and didn’t feel like a new job.
I am now based on site full time at a school. I love working in a school, it’s friendly, and it's like I am a part of the school. Even though I am not based with other people from RM, the company are very good at understanding people who are remote, especially after the last year we have all experienced. They have things in place to bring you together. I speak regularly to my 2nd line engineer, service account manager and we have weekly team meetings with other engineers. We regularly share experiences so I always feel there is contact and support.
I originally trained as musician and after I left college I took a full time role at Waitrose. Whilst working there I became involved in setting up technology for them, got the bug for it and this led to a career in IT. After that I had roles supporting a sales team who sold software and I would set up the kit at exhibitions. I also had good knowledge of creating websites so moving into a technical role made sense. After ten years supporting schools with their IT I still love the problem solving. Although I didn’t pursue a career in music, I see similarities in how you use your brain and it certainly keeps me challenged. I hadn’t initially considered a career in IT but I have definitely now found my niche.
