Since joining RM 4 years ago, I have progressed from Digital Merchandising Manager to Trading Manager and now Senior Digital Trading Manager for the RM Resources Brands. In my role I manage the commercials for the websites and ensure they are being traded effectively for our customers, using data to deliver and implement a trade and merchandising plan. Our aim is to make sure we have the right messages, in the right place, for the right customers, at the right time. When I first joined, we were about seeing roughly 30% of sales online but now over half of our company sales are coming through ecommerce channels. The way we approach eCommerce has changed dramatically in the last 4 years, recognising the B2B nature of our business and the B2C shopping habits of our customers. In the last few years we have really developed our digital marketing, promotional and technical capabilities to deliver the best experience possible for our customer.
What I enjoy is how varied the role is, no day is the same. I also like the education market; it is extremely complex and has lots of nuances. Managing two brands with very different propositions within the same market presents an additional challenge.
Since I joined, through adding process, structure & experience to the team we are constantly evolving the way we operate. Because of this we put an emphasis on data, understanding our customer and making decisions to suit the customer and the business, seeking continuous improvement. We are on a journey, taking our ecommerce offering from functional to inspiring. As a business we have a more focused mindset towards digital than when I joined and I feel I have really been able to influence that. My background in fast paced B2C retail, along with my colleagues, has helped bring a different outlook to the way our digital function sees our customer and RM have given me the ability to put my stamp on things. You can really make a difference. Ideas are welcome and people truly listen and take them on board.
Our Digital Team continues to grow, and as a result we work collaboratively and cross functionally around the business. I have been able to gain experience and be actively involved in wide aspects of digital and ecommerce that I perhaps would not have experienced elsewhere, helping me to develop a broader understanding of all thing’s ecommerce. I have joined board meetings, worked heavily in UX, creative, onsite development and project management as well as trading, business forecasting and trade planning. The company have been brilliant with the opportunities they have given me and in return I have been able to achieve a lot for them.
Every change we make each year we are moving forwards and getting into a better place. Working for RM allows autonomy and the ability to make a difference The ambition of the company is huge.
