Haykal Karama
Support Engineer
I have been with RM for almost two years now. I was keen to join RM as they provide IT equipment and support all over the UK. I have an interest in IT and thought working in a school would be really rewarding. When I saw the IT support role I had to apply.
Before joining RM I had worked in retail in customer service but decided I wanted a career in IT support. I had always supported family with IT problems and working in school made sense as I have children going into school and I have so much respect for the job teachers do. I completed an IT course in London and gained work experience through doing voluntary IT support.
The support from colleagues when I joined RM was great. My manager arranged for me to shadow another engineer based locally. This definitely prepared me and we are still in touch a lot. In my role I help solve any IT related issues that staff or students have in a few different schools. As I was new to RM and to the school having the warm welcome and support really helped. My school has nine sites although I am predominantly based on one site. I regularly visit the other sites to support them with any issues that arise.
It is exciting at RM as it is a great learning opportunity. There are online videos that everyone has access to and you can build relationships with everyone as there isn't any hierarchy. Since joining RM I have grown in confidence, skills and knowledge.
Being part of an outstanding team where everyone helps in shaping the future for the children makes me really proud to work for RM. It is so exciting to see the students get excited about their IT.
