Field Based Technician

I joined RM back in May 2018. Prior to RM I was working at a school with two other IT technicians. I felt I couldn’t progress in the role so I was looking for a new challenge. At RM I look after 16 different sites including 15 primary schools and one trust office. Day to day I try and visit two sites. In the morning I arrive at the school and see what’s on the call system to check if the school has any IT problems. I then walk around the school speaking to the staff face to face to make sure everything is working okay. In the afternoon I travel to another site and carry out the same procedure.

Over the summer I carried out a project at College of West Anglia. They were refreshing their computer suites so I worked as part of a team to remove old computers and install the new ones. I really enjoyed this project as I like the physical aspect of taking the computers apart and putting them together. I recently had a project at a primary school which had a new server installed. This was a challenge as there were lots of issues. I liaised with the technical team in the local area and in the end everything worked out.

Working at RM I have a really good support network. I have technicians locally and on the phone and I have my second in line whom I have a great working relationship with.

I joined RM as I was looking to progress in my career and gain new experiences. I want to be the best I can. I am proud to work for RM as I enjoy seeing the customer’s reaction and the positive feedback when they are happy with the results. It is a great working environment.
