Prospector

I joined RM within Connectivity as a Prospector in August 2018. My role involves lead generation for the Business Development Managers. As well as this, I am responsible for generating market insights for contract renewals and dealing with requests for information.

What I enjoy about working in Connectivity is that we have the ability to alleviate many current issues within Education such as teachers’ workload. For many rural schools, their broadband is actually inadequate so by showing them service stats and our resilience, we can improve their service and save them time. Not only can we provide them with great technology but with effective implementation we can really maximise what they can achieve with it.

As well as broadband we can offer schools solutions for online safety. Every step of our package has education in mind and is tailored to schools. Safetynet really allows a school to get rich detail of what safeguarding is about in modern education. It allows a school to meet their individual and nice requirements and to stay up to date with evolving safeguarding issues.

What I enjoy about the role is that I feel that it has given me a good grounding in sales which will help me to move on in my career. We work on campaigns which allows us to constantly improve and modify our sales pitch. One campaign I worked on was a regional campaign in North Yorkshire. We won an additional 12 schools from this campaign of which I was responsible for 6. Seeing results like these is great as you get to see the bigger picture and understand what we are trying to achieve.

I have also now started to accompany the BDMs on site visits. It is really interesting to see their role and the end to end process. I have learnt a lot from the team, seeing their styles and their own skills. Schools can throw anything at you so it was great to see how they react and deal with the questions. I also work closely with the Inside Sales team who often give me leads to follow up and nurture myself so that I can continue my development.

The support from RM has been incredible. I have learnt a lot both about education and the technology which has helped me to understand and explain how we can alleviate problems.

I love working for RM because of the sector. Rarely do you find a topic that has affected everyone in the way that education does.
