I joined RM in 2014 as a Prospector after a career within retail. I wanted to move into sales as I enjoyed meeting and talking to new people and was always curious about the psychology of selling and wanted to learn more. Originally I joined as a temp but soon moved into a permanent role working on various campaigns before moving to the connectivity team as an Internal Business Development Manager.
After two years in that role, I became a Business Development Manager within Infrastructure and Cloud Services team and am now a Local Authority Relationship Manager.
My role now involves new business focusing on Local Authorities. It’s a new team that has been created and it’s exciting to be a part of it and having the opportunity to work on large value contracts with existing and new Local Authorities.
Before I joined RM, I never thought I could do IT sales as I didn’t have a background in sales and wasn’t at all technical. RM have supported me to increase my product knowledge and understanding. I’ve been able to spend time with the more experienced members of the team, have regular meetings with the Product Managers to keep up to date with the latest product development and attend a number of sales courses that RM have to offer.
What I enjoy most about my role is forming new relationships that provide value to the customer and working with them to solve real business issues they are facing. It’s very rewarding being able to bring something new to the table which has a positive impact on education.
At RM, we are all about innovation and bringing new technology into schools. It still amazes me to see the technology that schools have compared to what they had when I was at school. We work with Google and Microsoft for education so we can see what they’re doing and work with them to create new ways to use technology in the school.
In addition to my role I’ve been able to be involved in our Early Careers programme going into schools and talking to students about their future careers and why they should work in sales which is something I have really enjoyed.
Working for RM it isn’t just a corporate sale. We help schools embrace technology to enhance the teaching and learning experience in the classroom, which is incredibly rewarding.
