"I love the fact that here at RM, what we do makes a real difference to the education sector. I’m also very proud of the fact that our culture is one of continuous improvement."
I originally applied to a graduate role with RM back in 2000, however following my engagement, I moved to Scotland, as my partner had a career based there. We then moved to Oxfordshire and almost 4 years ago, I was glad to see an opportunity with RM; having always had interest in education and working to make a difference, I decided to apply for their Senior Development Manager role.
This role involved managing our development teams in India and the UK, focusing on the development of our current products. I’ve since moved into my current role which is focussed on innovation and product management.
As Product Manager for RM Results I am responsible for driving Intellectual Property plans and strategy, having oversight of the products we’re developing, being clear on value propositions, pricing, sharing market intelligence and providing insight into Sales, Marketing, Account Management and Product teams. In addition, Continuous Innovation means I support a number of innovation projects focused on the next product that will make a difference in the wider assessment market. A key part of my role is to keep our portfolio on the leading edge of technology.
RM has allowed me to develop my career by giving me the opportunity to grow into different roles. Overall, RM are focused on developing capability with their employees. Tangibly, for me, this has been the provision of management training, communications training and internal and external mentoring and support.
There is never a typical day but my role generally involves customer engagement, overseeing solution design work streams, customer meetings in relation to systems resolution, mentoring meetings, customer meetings both in the UK and overseas and due to growth, interviewing for new members of our team.
I particularly enjoy the Product management aspect of my tenure as we are looking to widen our intellectual property portfolio.
One of the most challenging pieces of work I have been involved in is the delivery of our e-marking assessment solution for a client in Singapore. In Singapore, the day a contract is awarded, is the day the work starts. We worked to very tight timelines with strict commercial requirements on a very large program of work and had to ensure co-ordination between the UK, our offices in India and the client in Singapore.
I love the fact that here at RM, what we do makes a real difference to the education sector. I’m also very proud of the fact that our culture is one of continuous improvement.
